Most private health funds reset your extras benefits every calendar year. If you haven't used your optical cover in 2026, any remaining balance doesn't roll over — it simply resets on 1 January, whether you've claimed it or not.

Book your eye exam and glasses fitting with Vision One Eyecare before the end of December and make the most of the cover you've already paid for.

What you can typically claim before benefits reset

  • Comprehensive eye examinations
  • Prescription glasses (frames and lenses)
  • Prescription sunglasses
  • Contact lenses

Exact coverage and rebate amounts depend on your individual health fund and level of cover — we recommend checking your remaining limit with your fund, or ask our team and we can help you check on the day.

Why book now, not in January

  • Unused annual limits are lost, not banked — once 1 January hits, last year's balance is gone
  • Appointments fill quickly in November and December as other patients realise the same thing
  • A new prescription or a new pair of glasses before the new year means you're ready to go from day one of the new benefit period, rather than waiting on an appointment

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to bring anything? Your private health insurance card (or member number) and, if you have one, your current glasses or contact lens prescription.

Can I use my benefits on the same visit as my eye exam? Yes — many patients complete their eye exam and select new frames or lenses in the same visit, so there's no need for a second appointment.

What if I'm not sure how much benefit I have left? Your health fund can tell you your remaining annual limit, or bring your membership details to your appointment and our team can help you check.

What if December books out? Book as early as possible — appointments are limited and tend to fill from early December onward.
